How to audit a business telecom invoice

To audit a telecom invoice, work through four passes: inventory every recurring charge, match each charge to a service in use, compare rates against your contract, and dispute what fails either check. Here is how each pass works.
The four passes
First, list every recurring line item, including taxes, surcharges, and fees. Second, match each item to a real service at a real site, anything unmatched is a candidate for cancellation. Third, compare billed rates to your contracted rates, discrepancies are disputable. Fourth, raise disputes in writing and track them to credit.
Where errors hide
The classic hiding places: duplicated charges after a migration (double-billing), promotional rates that silently expired, per-line fees on disconnected numbers, and surcharges misapplied to your service class. Migrations and plan changes are when most errors are born, audit after every one.
Run the checklist quarterly, or have an independent advisor do it free, the findings pay for the habit.
